David Bailey is one of the foremost authorities on Aloha shirts in the world, and his stories are also world class.
In 1979, after a near-death paragliding accident, David knew it was time for a new adventure. He spent the following year acquiring over 1,000 vintage Aloha shirts from swap meets, yard sales, and thrift stores around the world to open his store in 1980.
And over the last 40 years, his collection has become the stuff of legends.
Bailey's is an old-school shop with a well-worn interior and packed racks. Aloha shirts and vintage finds fill the space, so come with a little time and a curious eye.
The shop sits just inland at the Diamond Head end of Waikīkī, five minutes from the beach and a world away from the resort shops.
The shirts are why people come in. This is why they stay longer than they meant to.
Buying in volume? Wholesale prices are available on large purchases — call the shop and ask for David.
